Aaron Dimmock, a retired Navy officer and aviator, has entered the Republican primary to challenge Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida — jumping into the race hours before a filing deadline last Friday. Mr. Dimmock and representatives of American Patriots PAC did not respond to requests for comment. The primary for the First Congressional District, which covers Pensacola and the western Florida Panhandle, will take place on Aug. 20. Kennedy Jr. officially qualified for the ballot in Michigan, a key battleground state that could prove pivotal in deciding the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Natural Law Party of Michigan chair Doug Dern told CNN the party nominated Kennedy in a convention on Wednesday. The foundation is run by Yass and other veteran Susquehanna executives, according to the documents that are current through 2022. The Susquehanna Foundation is one of two foundations that Yass and his closest friends have funded and led. The other foundation is even less well known: the Claws Foundation. Similar to Susquehanna, Claws is the charitable arm of one person: Arthur Dantchik, a co-founder of Susquehanna International Group with Yass, is the sole listed donor to Claws Foundation.

Buoyed by an energetic State of the Union address to Congress and some extra presidential star power, the Biden campaign and its affiliated fundraising groups raised $90 million in March, nearly equaling what they raised in the first two months of 2024 combined. It comes as former President Donald Trump's campaign is only starting to kick its fundraising operation into high gear. Most of the $26 million raised for the March 28 "Three Presidents" fundraiser, which featured Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton as well as musical performances from Lizzo, Queen Latifah and others, came in over the course of March. The Trump campaign has not yet reported its March fundraising. The Biden campaign says that a majority of its fundraising has now come from "grassroots" donors, and it's embracing the contrast with Trump's weekend event.

There is already an effort underway by wealthy Biden donors to recruit Haley's bundlers and contributors. The Biden Victory Fund raises money for the Biden campaign, the Democratic National Committee and dozens of state parties. "Everyone, including Republican voters who reject Trump's chaos, division, and violence, has a home in President Biden's campaign," said Munoz, the Biden campaign aide. The ads will feature onetime Trump voters explaining why they decided not to vote for him again. A political action committee called "Haley Voters for Biden" is also trying to persuade Haley voters to support Biden, according to Semafor.

That could benefit third-party or independent presidential candidates in a state that Joe Biden narrowly carried over Donald Trump in 2020. A super PAC backing independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in February that it had gathered enough signatures in Georgia for Kennedy to make the ballot. Currently, independent or third-party candidates must collect at least 7,500 signatures from registered Georgia voters to qualify for the ballot in the state. A separate provision of the election legislation would broaden what constitutes “probable cause” needed to uphold challenges to voter registrations. Voting rights groups have objected to several provisions in the legislation, including the rules regarding voter challenges.
